The Pogačnikov hut is perched on a small hilltop (2050 m) on the lower edge of the giant karst amphitheatre called Kriški podi. It is surrounded by six prominent peaks: Planja, Razor, Križ, Stenar, Bovški Gamsovec, Pihavec (all of which can be accessed on way marked routes – with the exception of the one leading up to Stenar, all trails involve secured sections). Apart from the peaks, there is also a nice view down into the valley of the Soča River, spotted with the tiny houses of Trenta village.
The hut is open from the second half of June until the second half of September and has capacity for nearly 80 people.
